Sadhana Sanskriti Pratishthan is a registered trust founded in 1986 by the late Shri Lalit Mohan Thapalyal, playwright, director, and actor. A journalist in his younger days, he retired as an international civil servant. His life-long passion was theater. He believed that meaningful theatre must have a relationship with current concerns:

The activities of the Pratishthan’s theatre group, the Sadhana Natya Kala Kendra, include training, stage performances and workshops on theatre and related arts both for children and adults. The group’s performances in Sadhana’s studio theatre in Sahibabad are an important part of the local cultural landscape. The troupe has also performed in Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Delhi, Bareilly, Lucknow, and other centres of Hindi theatre.

Lalit Mohan Thapalyal wrote in both Hindi and Garhwali and won several awards for his plays, including the Jaishree Samman, Garhwali Bhasha Parishad, Dehradun, 1986, Children’s Book Trust award for drama in 1988, Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi, All-India Playwriting Competition 1988-89, and Mohan Rakesh Samman 1996.
