Mausam Ko Na Jaane Kya Ho Gaya

Rated 3.00 out of 5 based on 1 customer rating

The play is not simply about the changing weather. It is about existence which has been forced to shift. While the play is about the current state of farmers' suicides, the intention of its creators drawing upon their own encounters, have attempted to string together seemingly unrelated occurrences of everyday life into a revealing picture of loss and survival.

Play Summary

This play portrays the story of a destitute farmer Pratap from a village of a northern part of India. For millennia, generations of Pratap were involved with farming but today he is compelled to go to city and work as a labourer. The reason is the untimely climatic changes. This story line raises issues like climatic change that is taking place and with that raises the question on the policies of the government and also raises the apathy of government towards plight of common farmers.

To get trapped into the vicious circle of failed crops, debt, rural to urban migration and consequently despair is not only widespread but also inevitable outcome of various policy and micro- level decisions. The requirements of the international trade regime and the impact of the Government’s decisions come forth to the isolated farmer in obscure ways like price rise in raw materials and diminishing profit margins. It is impossible for the farmers to link their starvation with the larger politics at play. The cause of damage is man made as it is a result of uncontrolled human interference with nature’s line of defense.

What we witnessed in Uttrakhand, has previously happened in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and many other parts of India. Its time each of us starts taking small steps to save our environment.

The play captures this beautifully.
